Belize’s Under-18 National Basketball team is in Argentina competing in the FIBA U-18 Americup tournament, and today, Belize opened Group B’s play with a game against Brazil. Belize’s lead hovered around 6 points for the majority of the game but ballooned to about 14 points late in the game. Belize led for most of the game and won every single quarter, except for the last when Brazil made a final push – a push which brought Brazil to within 2 points in the final seconds. Despite Brazil’s late push, Belize secured the historic victory 106-102. Belize was led by Josiah Moseley, who came off the bench to contribute 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Douglas Langford, Jr. contributed 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Elijah Favela and Ian Parham each contributed 14 points. Following the game, Head Coach Matthew Smiling told XTV/KREM News that the team won due to their defensive effort.
